As 2014 drew to a close, CiTV in the UK commissioned ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures of New Zealand to make a second run of Thunderbirds Are Go, the reinvention of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s classic 1960s puppet series.
After years of comedy dominating kids TV schedules and ‘what we’re looking for’ sessions from buyers, it’s high time the action-adventure genre made a comeback.
Star Wars Rebels has already set the pace on Disney XD but franchises such as Thunderbirds will do their best to challenge The Force in toyshops around the world.
After all, ITV Studios Global Entertainment has already pre-sold the series to international broadcasters including TVNZ in New Zealand, Australia’s Nine Network, Noga in Israel and pan-Arab broadcaster MBC.
