The Pūkeko Story

Our History

Dragons, Aliens and Beyond

Pūkeko was born when Richard Taylor, Tania Rodger and Martin Baynton first worked together on the award-winning television program Jane and the Dragon a CGI series about a medieval girl and her pet dragon. Digital effects technology developed in-house for the show was used to deliver a new aesthetic for animated television, and a new direction for what Pūkeko could become.

Keen to build on the success of Jane and the Dragon and a dedication to the producing the highest quality children’s entertainment, Pūkeko set to working building on the skills and technology that would let us become world leading entertainment creators.

After Jane, came The WotWots, a CGI and Live action series and following this Thunderbirds Are Go, a reboot of  the iconic Thunderbirds series from the 1960s took flight with groundbreaking computer graphics combined with Weta Workshop’s world famous talent in building miniature sets.

Most recently, we have solidified long standing partnerships with China and launched Kiddets, the first official co-production in children’s television between New Zealand and China. Series 2 is in production.

On the horizon is a slew of entertainment experiences that will continue the tradition of breaking new ground in entertainment and bringing the best quality to screens of all sizes around the world.
