Thunderbirds Are Go takes off for second series Saturday 25 Feb at 6.55am TVNZ 2

Get ready for brand new episodes of your favourite heroes packed with more action, comedy and rescue when Thunderbirds Are Go returns for season two starting on Saturday 25 February at 6.55am on TVNZ 2.

The ITV Studios and New Zealand-based Pukeko Pictures production is in collaboration with the world-famous Weta Workshop (Avatar, King Kong, The Lord of the Rings), using a unique mix of CGI animation and live-action model sets.

Jenna Coleman guest stars as ‘Baines’, the crew boss of a geological survey team that get trapped when a huge Earthbreaking vehicle causes them to fall into a narrow crevice. Scott, Virgil and Kayo take off in Thunderbird 1, Thunderbird 2, and Thunderbird Shadow after the Earthbreaker takes out the responding GDF fliers.

The vehicle’s controller known only as The Mechanic attacks and damages Thunderbird 2, leaving Virgil no choice but to make an emergency crash landing back on Tracy Island.

Meanwhile, Lady Penelope and Parker visit the Hood in Parkmoor Scrubs prison to find out more about this mysterious new villain. In the end, Scott evacuates the survey team while Kayo takes on the Mechanic. They barely make it out when the villain sets his vehicle to self-destruct.

Whenever disaster strikes, International Rescue answers the call. From their hidden island base in the South Pacific, the five Tracy brothers pilot remarkable, cutting-edge Thunderbird vehicles from the depths of the oceans to the highest reaches of space – all for one purpose: to help others in need.

Supported by mechanical genius Brains, stealthy operative Kayo, their jetsetting London agent Lady Penelope and her loyal driver Parker, Scott, Gordon, Virgil, John and Alan Tracy live for these three words: Thunderbirds Are Go.

Featuring the world’s most famous family of heroes, the series stars Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, Pride and Prejudice) as Lady Penelope, original cast member David Graham who reprises his role as Parker, Kayvan Novak (Fonejacker, Facejacker) as inventor Brains, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game of Thrones, Love Actually) voicing John Tracy.

Richard Taylor, co-owner of Pukeko Pictures and Weta Workshop said, “Every one of our dedicated crew involved in the ongoing creation of Thunderbirds Are Go are understandably very excited that we have a chance to share our up and coming second season with New Zealand audiences on TVNZ 2. This season promises an ever accelerating energy and excitement as the Tracy family set out to save the world from treachery and peril in the only way they know how – with bravery and ingenuity!”

Thunderbirds Are Go is a reinvention of the classic Thunderbirds series which was relaunched last year, 50 years on from its first television debut.
